Jane & Kevin : Victoria Wedding Photographer

Last weekend I met up with Jane & Kevin to shoot their engagement session. I am photographing their wedding in August and if the E session is any indication of their big day,…then its going to be a lot of fun. What a great couple!

I met Jane a couple of years back, when she was in the bridal party of her good friend Melissa. That was such a lovely and laid back group, as I’m sure the bridal party of Jane and Kevin will be. Towards the end of the session we got out my old Polaroid camera for a couple of shots. There’s nothing like the immediacy of the Polaroid,…instant magic! Its fun because the couple can see a picture right away, stick it in their pocket and take it home as a momento of their session. Congratulations Jane & Kevin. I can’t wait to shoot your wedding!

Vancouver Favourites – Victoria Photographer

One of my all time favourite places to go in Vancouver is the quirky and wonderful Regional Assembly of Text on Main Street. Filled with the most artfully crafted paper goods and gifts for all those who still love the world of analog, I go there every time I am in the city. There are countless typewriters in the store for their letter writing club and & I think they have a button making night too.

Under the stairs in the shop, they have a small space called – the lowercase reading room – filled with zines and little books which should not be missed. The two gals who run the place are Emily Carr grads and are so inspired and full of vision. If you plan on being in Vancouver, then you just have to go.

Vintage Camera Collection – IV: Mamiya C330

Here’s another gem from my collection of vintage cameras: the Mamiya C330. This twin lens reflex camera was produced by Mamiya from 1964 to 1972. The beauty of this camera is the interchangeable lenses and its 2 & 1/4 ” square format. Its super easy to compose within a square. And I have used this camera up until quite recently.

One really cool way to use this type of camera is TTv or Through the Viewfinder photography, which is taking a picture of any subject through the viewfinder of any camera with another camera. There are all sorts of tutorials on line and the images produces are dreamy and romantic.

Spring on Vancouver Island – Victoria Photographer

At last spring has finally arrived in Victoria! My garden is starting to come alive with beautiful colours, particularly the blossom tree in the front yard. My herb garden of oregano, chives, thyme, mint and sage is growing well & soon it will be time to get the veggies in. I am planting yellow beets, lettuce, radish, leeks, carrots and green onions. And there will be strawberries and raspberries too. I can’t wait for summer. Yum!
