Recently my friends & I had the chance to test drive some of the great new bikes available from Victoria's own Lochside Cycles.
The guys at Lochside loaned us two of their wonderful new vintage inspired bikes, the Voyageur & the Lovelo. What better way to enjoy these last days of summer than with a ride to the park and a picnic with friends?
We packed a basket, picked up some Sam Adams at the local BC Liquor Store and headed out. For our picnic, I adapted a recipe for Pulled Pork Sandwiches from the Food Network’s website, substituting Boston Lager for the apple cider vinegar in the recipe, topping the pork with some fresh Roma tomatoes and serving them with a side of zesty gherkins. Along with our sandwiches, we enjoyed some Grapefruit Radlers, a German beer cocktail, typically made with lemonade - a variation of the British Shandy. Radler, which actually translates from the German as cyclist, is a refreshingly light drink perfect for summer. This drink would be great also made with Sam Adams' Porch Rocker.
It's hard to believe another summer is coming to a close, but as the sun began to set on this late August night and we pedaled home, everything seemed perfect. After all, what more do you need if you have good food, good beer and your great friends to share them? What a lovely evening!
